NTP offer forklift and plant training for all levels of experience. We offer Refresher Courses, Novice Operator Courses, and Experienced Unlicensed Operator Courses.

Forklift and plant training has been proven to reduce operating costs as well as motivating the workforce. The Health & Safety Commission's Code Of Practice, RIDER OPERATED LIFT TRUCKS - OPERATOR TRAINING, issued under the authority of the Health & Safety at Work Act, states that all employers must ensure that Forklift and plant operators are adequately trained.

Refresher Course

Refresher Courses can be carried out if you can show evidence of previous training or certification. This course is designed to give the trained and certificated forklift operator whose licence is due for renewal, a one day refresher course and test, to renew his/her licence. Licences are valid for 5 years.

Novice Operator Course

Novice Operator Course is aimed at those who have had very little or no previous experience of operating forklifts or other plant and have not received any formal training. This course would normally require 4 to 5 days full foundation training. This consists of 3 to 4 days practical on the machine and 1 day theory in the classroom.

Experienced Unlicensed Operator Course

This Experienced Unlicensed Operator Course is designed for the forklift or other plant operator who has had extensive practical experience, (longer than 12 months), but has never been formally trained and does not hold a licence. They will require a minimum of 3 days training, which consists of 2 days practical on the machine and 1 day theory in the classroom.

Courses at our training centre

At our fully equipped training centre we can provide courses on either Counterbalance, Reach, Rough Terrain, Telescopic or Ride-On Pedestrian Stacking Forklifts. Courses are available all year round including Saturdays and Sundays and are available to business and private customers. Courses at our centre are a very flexible alternative to on-site training at your premises. By sending your staff to us you can minimise workplace disruption and alleviate staff shortages.

Training on your premises

Many employers choose on-site training, using the approach that staff are trained on the equipment they will actually be using and with the loads they will handle. Up to THREE trainees of similar ability may be trained at the same time. If on-site training is preferred, our instructor will require the following facilities to be in place:

  • A forklift truck in safe and sound working order, available for the complete duration of the course.

  • The Forklift truck must also have an in date lifting (LOLER) certificate.

  • A supply of stackable loads and empty pallets, set aside from the main working area and preferably under cover.

  • Access to a room with electricity supply in which the theory sessions can be peacefully conducted.

  • Uninterrupted attendance by all trainees throughout the entire course.
